The Mission Youth Soccer League is one of the great success stories of grassroots youth soccer in San Francisco. The MYSL was founded by local Mission residents Andy Solow, with assistance by Juan Gonzalez, Larry Kischmichian Juaquin Trigueros, Fernando Alvarez, Inaki Alvarez, and Luis Felipe Magalhaes. The MYSL was founded to keep youth in school, off the streets and prepare them for future success and to become leaders in the communities.
In 1992 the new league affiliated with the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA, Cal North). In 1994 Mark Bethel, Rudy Castro, and Jose Guzman joined the league. As the inaugural League Coordinator for MYSL, Jose organized the Mission Summer League in 1998, and eventually expanded the league to offer a winter league that plays outdoors.
Teams that register with the MYSL are given the opportunity to participate in year-round soccer (fall, winter, spring and summer) through San Francisco Youth Soccer and the Mission Youth Soccer League.
