The recreation soccer program, hosted by San Francisco Youth Soccer is focused on introducing soccer to all individuals regardless of ability. The program is underscored by the belief that children learn and enjoy soccer the most when playing against teams of similar ability.
Recreational Soccer Benefits
Balanced Bracketing
MYSL believes that kids should learn how to win as well as lose. Teams will play against teams of similar ability, resulting in a mix of wins and losses. Losses will give players a chance to learn valuable lessons including working harder in practice to get better, learn to fight back in games, learn to play from behind and more. We want all kids that participate to understand that its not the end of the world to lose a game.
Coach Support
MYSL will provide coach support to first time coaches. All our coaches participating with MYSL teams are volunteers. Without volunteers, the kids would not get to play. MYSL requires coaches to take USSF coaching classes (online and 1 in person course) but does not require them to officially pursue a coaching license. MYSL will provide on field instruction and guidance to help coaches and their players have an excellent experience during their season.
Time Commitment
We understand that kids may be participating in additional activities outside their soccer season. Recreational teams receive 1 game and 1 practice per week which provides a lot of flexibility for players and coaches who may be new to the sport.
